The church is situated 5 minutes from our walking hotel in South Tyrol. You reach the village’s landmark walking downhill in about 500 metres. Right after the motor way (direction Falzeben), you will see the sign of the tourism agency. On its right a shady forest path leads you to St. Kathrein Church. Take path no. 11 (direction Sulfner Weiher) to get back to the hotel.

From the "Falzeben" parking lot, hike up to the Piffinger Köpfl (alternatively, you can take the cable car up), where trail no. 3 towards Waidmannalm starts. Trail 19A leads up to the St. Oswald Chapel and then to the Kuhleiten Hut. From there, you can already see the summit cross. You should have some mountain experience, surefootedness, and be free from vertigo.
Walking time: approx. 5 hours
The short hike to the Zuegg Hut and Rotwand Hut is interesting for families as well as the first hike of the holiday. Of course, you can also continue hiking from there. The hike starts at the Falzeben parking lot Avelengo, trail no. 14 leads gently uphill to the Zuegg Hut in about 35 minutes. Below the Zuegg Hut, there is a pond with ducks, frogs, and turtles, as well as a beautiful lawn for relaxation. After another ten minutes, families and leisure hikers reach the Rotwand Hut. Both huts have a large playground.

The Knottnkino (Knott = rock) is one of the most beautiful vantage points from Monzoccolo featuring views of the Texel Group as far as Penegal and Weißhorn. From our 4-star-superior walking hotel you walk to the parking lot in Avelengo. From there you take Trail no. 16 to Leader Alm in Vöran. Below the Bruggen pond, path no. 11 branches off in the direction of Weberhof, and shortly afterwards path no. 14 leads up to Knottnkino. Return on path no. 14 to Weberhof, then turn left on paths no. 12 and 12A back to the starting point.

The starting point for the hike to the idyllically situated Kratzberger Lake is Piffing, which you can reach from Falzeben by cable car. Follow trail no. 3, reach the Missensteiner Joch, and then, following sign 4, reach Kratzberger Lake. Return via the Meraner Hut to Kreuzjöchl, then descend via the Maiser Alm and Moschwaldalm to Falzeben.

The Marlengo Waalweg stretches over approximately 12 kilometres and offers shady sections along rocky steep slopes. It starts at Töll above the villages of Forst, Marlengo, and Cermes and leads to Oberlana. Walking along the Waal, you will pass by picturesque orchards, forests, and a castle. The path is also perfect for families.

On the road – walking the E5
In your walking holidays in the Merano region you can also walk the E5 long-distance hiking trail from the Merano hut to San Genesio. Starting point: Kirchsteiger Alm (or Meraner Hütte). Follow trail no. 4 to the Spieler and Kreuzjöchl to the Kreuzjoch on 2.086 metres. Here you will find a platform offering great view of the Dolomites, the Sarntaler Alps, the Texel and Brenta Group as well es the Ortler region. Follow the ridge to the Auener Jöchl and then downhill to the Möltner Kaser. Descend over the Möltner Joch to Schermoos. Follow the sign-posts of the E5 to the larch tree meadows of Salto until you reach San Genesio.
